Ikon

Rádpuszta near Balatonlelle amidst the idyllic hills of the South Balaton region was for centuries a highly valued vineyard of Tihany Abbey. Here the winery IKON was built as the fruit of the work of some wine lovers.

The style of the IKON wines is based on the expertise of one of the founders, the Balatonleller winemaker János Konyári, who was voted winemaker of the year in 2008. It is thanks to this that the winery IKON 2013 received the recognition WINERY OF THE YEAR.

The winery currently cultivates newly planted vineyards of 39 hectares with the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Pinot Noir. With an annual volume of 350,000 bottles, the winery produces its varietal wines from its own and purchased, hand-picked vines using gravity technology and modern technologies in a clean and gentle manner. The icon of the winery is the Cabernet Franc Evangelista. The wine is made from a yield limited, selected vine. He is mashed fermented in steel containers. Mash fermentation for 21 days, then aging in new oak barrels for 16 months.

Balaton

One of the most beautiful landscapes in Hungary is the wine-growing region of South Balaton, where the Celts and Romans cultivated vines and made wine. The Somogy county was given its coat of arms in 1498 by King Ladislaus II. In the center of the coat of arms you can see an arm with a grape. The helmeted arm represents the numerous battles and victories over the enemies. The left hand, which raises the vine branches, (in the right hand one should imagine the weapon) represents the fertility of the earth and the richness of vines and wine. According to the deed of donation, there is so much wine in this county that it thereby among the richest counties of the country counts.

After one and a half centuries of Ottoman rule, the newly recovering wineries were destroyed by phylloxera. Only after the epidemic did the winegrowing on the former Festetics estate and on the acreage of the Benedictine abbey of Tihany revive again. The proximity of Lake Balaton also has a favorable effect on the balanced climate, as the shallow water on the south bank quickly becomes warm, thus creating an optimal microclimate. These are excellent conditions for the production of light, harmonious muscat wines and cults and other white wines. There are also white varieties, which are suitable for the production of the now quite popular light, elegant, fruity-smelling wines and sparkling wines.

In the case of red wines, the winegrowing area is more suitable for the production of wines with fruity notes and aromas typical of Burgundy. Cultivated red grape varieties: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Blaufränkisch. The red wines are also characterized by their beautiful acids and scents, less by astringency or body.
